Edibles 101: Your Cannabis Edibles Guide

There’s a reason you hear people talk about cannabis edibles so much. They’re a great way to get your cannabis fix, whether you’re a new user or a seasoned pro. That’s because THC (the compound in the cannabis plant that gets you high) can be infused into almost any food or drink. Tasty foods and drinks can be more appealing or more convenient than smoking, and they also tend give you a longer, more intense high.

If you’ve never tried edibles before, or tried them and had a weird experience, you’ll probably want to learn a little bit more about how edibles work so you end up with the right vibes.

Effects of Cannabis Edibles

Effects vary a lot depending on things like the type of edible, your weight and metabolism, your tolerance for THC, and several other factors. Our budtenders are happy to help you find the right product and dosage for you, so don’t stress about having to figure it all out on your own! The main things to keep in mind are…

  1. Start low and slow
Cannabis edibles can take a while to kick in, sometimes hours, and the effects can last even longer. Chow down on too many edibles and you may seriously regret your overindulgence once the high hits. A good recommended starting dose is 2.5mg to 5mg. Don’t increase your dose until the effects hit and you know how much more intensity you want, if any.
  2. Make an evening of it
Since you won’t know how long it will take to kick in, or how hard it will hit you, plan to be somewhere safe and comfy where you won’t have to drive. You may have to wait 30-90 minutes for your high, and the trip may last three hours or more.
  3. Don’t partake on an empty stomach
Eating before you get high is a great idea, especially fatty foods like cheese, avocado, or nuts. The THC binds to the fat and helps your body absorb it for a faster, smoother experience.

Types of Cannabis Edibles

  • Drinks
Seltzers are a popular drink of choice for THC, but the options don’t end there. You can try coffee, tea, soda, and even alcoholic drinks like beer and wine.
  • Baked Goods
Brownies, cookies, cakes, and bread are all classic methods for getting a tasty high.
  • Candy
Gummies are arguably the most popular cannabis candy, but if gummies aren’t your thing, have no fear. Try chocolate, lollipops, mints, marshmallows, or caramel.
  • Other Foods
While you’ve probably heard of cannabis gummies, you may not have realized there are cannabis potato chips, beef jerky, jam, and more.
